Anime Summer line-up 2010 – Part 2
Before we continue on with our preview of anime series being launched in Summer 2010 – I thought I should make mention that the creators of ToLove Ru has announced a second series of the anime based on the manga by Hasemi Saki and Yabuki Kentaro. No details on the possible release date yet, but I’ll keep an eye out for more info. What we do know, is that the director is different, but studio, seiyuu and the majority of the staff are the same as the original series – thanks to Mangajet for the info.
Finally, since there is quite a few series coming – I’m going to focus on those series I’m looking forward to more – so I can actually get this covered before the Autumn releases :P
And now, back to our anime preview, the next set of series:
Amagami SS
The Story: A second year high-school boy faces his final chance to ask graduating senior (third year) Morishima Haruka to go out with him – well, its her or one of several classmates. This takes place during Christmas, which makes him somewhat uneasy due to a past experience that took place during the same period.
Starting: 01 July (13 Episodes)
Genre: Romance, School-life
This looks to be another rather typical harem-type anime, but from the looks of things will be more suitable for a younger audience to enjoy. Based on what I see on Anime News Network, the series will be arranged in an omnibus format, with each heroine having her own story. Personally, not my favourite format, but since it won’t be quite as over the top as is the case with Shukufuku no Campanella, I expect that I’ll be more likely to enjoy this particular series.
Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~
The Story: Following on the first season, the battle to find the supreme sekirei continues – but some of the masters refuse to participate in battles since losing means losing their sekirei, and some of them had come to care for their partners. Meanwhile, a darker fate approaches the city – promising pain and suffering for those who love their sekirei.
Starting: 04 July (14 Episodes)
Genre: Action, Supernatural
I actually did enjoy the first season of Sekirei, but I need to mention that it wasn’t going easy on the echhi elements – there was quite a bit of fanservice in the series. In addition, it had a fairly open ending – leaving plenty of room (if not making it very obvious) that a second season was in the offing. Animation and character design wasn’t bad at all and as a whole it was quite entertaining. So, I’m looking forward to this – and as a matter of fact, as I’m writing this, it has already started airing – so hopefully I’ll be able to put something down about it soonish.
Strike Witches 2
The Story: The witches of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing return to continue their long time war against the Neuroi, an alien force that has forced humanity out of their cities. Commonly known as the Strike Witches, the girls use specially developed Striker units and use their magic in battle against an enemy that has proven resistant to normal weapons. Starting: July
Genre: Action, Supernatural, Comedy
This is turning into something of a season for sequels, with another sequel in the offing which I will get to later. While ANN isn’t giving us an exact release date or the number of episodes, I’m expecting it to be of a similar length to the first season – 13. I did enjoy the first season, which had a curious blend of action and the odd comedic episode – because of this I’m definitely looking forward to this one. One question I still have though – why is there an entire unit of girls running around without pants? Maybe the second season will explain? GONZO’s got the animation covered – so we can be assured of some good quality animation.
And so, that finishes off the second part of the Summer Anime line-up. There’s still plenty to come – and I regret that I won’t be able to cover all of them – but as I mentioned in Part I – the guys over at THAT Anime Blog did go through most of them – and Anime News Network has a bunch of critics covering it in more detail – and they’re updating on the fly – so I’d recommend you check back on a daily basis if you want more insight in what’s to come over the course of the next two months or so.
My next post will most likely take quick break from the series, as I delve back into the world of fan-art before popping back on Part 3 of 2010 Summer Anime releases.
Until then ^_^
