Mikunopolis in Los Angeles
It looks like Miku and her fellow Vocaloids are set to continue their slow take-over and assimilation of the world. Apart from the recent airing of a Toyota advert in the US featuring Miku (the Toyota Corolla being her official car – wonder how much Toyota forked out for the pleasure), it was recently announced that Miku, Luka, Rin and Len would be strutting their stuff at the 2011 Anime Expo in Los Angeles on the 2nd of July.
For those worried that we may face a similar escapade to that experienced at the now infamous MikuPa that took place on the 9th of March this year, I say, worry not. Unlike the ill-fated (and much maligned) March event, SEGA and Crypton Future Media are supervising this particular concert, which according to the official site, will be based on the 39s Thanksgiving Day Concert that was held on 9 March 2010 – with, they say, some improvements over the original show.
Miku and Co’s first live concert on foreign shores offers hope to us poor benighted heathens who were unfortunate enough to be born somewhere other than Japan, and personally I hope this is a sign of great things to come. Although I’m not really getting my hopes up for a local appearance here just yet, with the possible exception of Zimbabwe, South Africa is usually the last place to get anything awesome. But given a strong turn-out and demand, Miku may be hopping oceans just a little faster from this point forward.
And of course, all her fans can help make this little dream come true. Hatsune Miku’s music continues to to show strong sales on Amazon and iTunes, and the BluRay of the Thanksgiving Concert is still available over at J-list. Buy if you haven’t already – every bit of support drives her assimilation strategy closer to fruition.
To put things in perspective, the Hatsune Miku Facebook page recently cleared the 170,000 fan mark, making it about 4 times more popular than it was this time last year. We will be assimilated – resistance is futile.
Pfff … who’s resisting anyways :p
I unfortunately could not track down the original source of the second picture – the original link no longer works. If anyone knows, contact me and I’ll update accordingly :)
Update: The concert will be streamed live via NicoNicoDouga – this post has more details about it.
