America strikes again …

The remake of Kanon will be hitting American shelves in January 2008, and true to form, the voice actors have mutilated (to my ears anyways), yet another brilliant anime. Beyond the fact that Nayuki sounds much too mature for the character, Tsukimiya Ayu’s voice grates on my ears … and they even kept the trademark ~uguuu~ noise that she makes.

I’m not even going to describe the horror. And since the clip only involves three of the characters (Ayu, Nayuki and Yuuichi), I’m actually afraid to go out and search for any other clips about the dub.

If you think the horror ends there, think again. Right at the end of the clip, the characters introduce themselves and the typical American pronunciation of Japanese names rendered Tsukimiya Ayu unrecognisable – except, of course, in English she introduced herself as Ayu Tsukimiya.

If you don’t believe me – here’s the clip. And don’t say I didn’t warn you …

Time for me to go and rewatch Kanon – in Japanese.
